CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. Performed with 3D design software, digital imaging, and a sophisticated milling unit. CEREC offers state of the art dental care with ultimate comfort and convenience. A CEREC system consists of an acquisition unit and a milling unit. The mobile acquisition unit is equipped with a camera, which Dentist will use to take a digital picture of your tooth, once it is prepared. CEREC software creates a 3D image of your mouth which enables Dentist to immediately design your restoration, including dental crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers. Once the design is complete, the data is sent wirelessly to the milling unit. The milling unit shapes your restoration from a block of ceramic, shaded to match your tooth. Diamond coated burs cut into the ceramic, fashioning the dental crown or other restoration to the specifications received. The fabrication may take from 10 to 20 minutes, depending upon the type and size of restoration needed. The Advantages of CEREC CEREC offers a beautiful, durable restoration in minutes instead of weeks. This technology does away with putty like impressions and temporary crowns, elements of the process that patients often find unpleasant. In addition, CEREC crowns are made from ceramic and therefore do not contain any metals, providing an ideal option for patients who have a sensitivity to metal.
